Entertainer Buffing
-
**Observation: **The Eisley Entertainer Buff Droid is a powerful convenience. Very impressive! So much so that most players prefer it to getting a conventional entertainer buff from an ATK person in the cantina. Even the Lasting Performance buff is seldom enough to persuade players to seek a player buff over the self-service one.
**Goal: **Make player entertainers more valuable, but less painful to operate.
**Suggestions: **
- Add the self-service buffing mechanic to player entertainers, allowing patrons to select their own buffs as soon as they start listening/watching. They can accept the buff once the duration is acceptable. This allows entertainers to buff even while AFK, increasing the presence of player characters in Eisley, helping add a little bit more life to critical first impression city for new players
- Increase the buff droid cost from 25k to 50k. It should cost more than an average tip as it is a major convenience. Its like 10 times faster than using a player.
- Put the droid in the actual cantina so players have the opportunity to see player entertainers before going to it.
- (Optional) Reduce the buff droid's available points to be buffed with from 20 to 15.
I know, I know, nobody likes the idea of nerfing a convenience at first glance, but I believe it comes with a worthwhile long term benefit. Besides, I think we can expect an entertainer to pretty much be always up somewhere in the galaxy if not Eisley, and people would be more likely to use Register Location which already integrates with Discord's #active-entertainers channel.
Appreciation to Robdo for brainstorming with me.

All you have to do is ask everyone to come get buffs. We all will come. Maybe down the line when you have a mass increase of people I can see this. Not now.
The droid is in place so someone can get a buff who does not know if a player city has them run. Placing the tent in Eisley was good place to set your guy up.

I'm not concerned about tokens. We want to put practices in place that will help capture new players who are checking the server out, rather than wait for a large population first. There is no guarantee that will happen without thinking about the new player experiences first.
We ought be careful about QOL that can scream or embrace the idea "this is a dead server, heres some changes things that let you play the game solo".
Just hear me out, give this a shot - and if it doesn't work out, I'll be the first one in line to recommend rolling it back.

I still think that unless you have a number of players on that can buff it will not work yet. Maybe when we get more PVE stuff out and other things. It will pick up and work.
It’s more first getting players to be is the key and be on to have this happen.
You want more solo have more small group content. Most can get a big group but a small one can easy do that.

Devil's Advocate - We are the most friendly server towards solo players.
I used to be the guy that always said that MMOs are group games and solo players don't make sense in an MMO, so I completely understand the logic. Though I learned over time that some people just like to do their own thing in an MMO and many modern MMO's are absolutely geared to allow that. FFXIV, WoW, LOTRO, SWTOR. The multiplayer aspects are mostly optional.
Most SWG Servers are NOT solo friendly. So we have been one of the first to truly embrace that with buff droids of various types, Daily Instances, etc. I see it as us being more diverse and then we have things like World Bosses where you HAVE to participate with a group, so you can't do everything solo, but you can do alot.
All that said, adding this option to an AFK Player Entertainer could have value.

Credit here to the original inspirer in a recent conversation: Spice (all hail spice)
What of the possibility of Entertainers being able to craft buffs? ie medic option of crafting buffs, etc. Or akin to Chronicles?
Sure, perhaps truncate the time of such premade buffs to be on par with other quick buffs (~2hrs?)
and maybe/ maybe not they might have a token chance of umm... token generating ( akin to Chronicle gold odds?).Maybe such crafted buffs might not be usable on the same account's toons or just not able to glean such possible ent tokens.
This could open a new market.
There would be players that continue to utilize live player entertainers absolutely especially with their longer durations,
also there would be players that are just as happy to buy prepackaged buff set ups. -

I like the increase in the price of the self-service buff bot, It is certainly an item of convenience and should be priced as such. This will also help support our entertainers when they are active in the Cantina with a more organic system.
I also like locating the droid inside the cantina so player(s) can give an active entertainer a chance before using the buff bot.
The buff bots duration of the buff could also be reduced encouraging the use of a real entertainer to obtain a buff.

We don't all have financial empires...... 25k is already a respectable cost... especially when needing to re-do a buff at times - but:
Shortening the buff bot's inspire duration to one consistent with officer buff times ie could be reasonable.
By default, it will be more expensive that way anyway when talking longer play sessions and likely multiple uses, if that's what a player chooses to go with.
Player entertainer buffs being far more lasting, improves their allure with such longer play sessions.Inside cantina is a great idea, even the ideas of self buffing via an afk entertainer - or even an atk ent (hell, even with afk cover charge is just fine by me!), and/ or craftables - but some of the nerf ideas: make it more expensive and reduce points to 'encourage' "do it this way" feels reminiscent of another ...playground... that would consistently hammer limits because they wanted to compel specific playstyles consistent with their own whims, rather than the more "enjoy your game, bro" we've been experiencing here
-While we're on brainstorming the ent buff bot: if a toon has any points in entertainer, they're disallowed from using it. Why?

As I understand it, the key aspects of this change are:
- Players can continue to watch or listen to an entertainer as usual to receive time ticks.
- When doing so, the Inspire menu is triggered, for the players to select their desired buff.
- Entertainers will have the option to set a flat cover charge for any buffs they provide.
- The automatic buff bot droid will be relocated inside the cantina.
