Overview

As SWG Evolve expands to support larger group sizes—currently at 16 and potentially moving toward 32 members—the existing group UI format (e.g., a single vertical list) presents usability challenges. This proposal outlines the need for and benefits of implementing a configurable group window layout to enhance user experience and accessibility.

Problem Statement

The current fixed layout of the group window (e.g., 1x16) becomes impractical and inefficient as group sizes increase:

• The vertical layout often runs off the screen for users with standard or lower-resolution displays.
• It forces players to scroll or reduce UI scale to accommodate all members, which hampers quick situational awareness and healing/support efficiency.
• The lack of layout options reduces the adaptability of the interface for different playstyles or monitor configurations.

Proposed Solution

Introduce a user-selectable layout configuration option for the group window. Players could choose from several layout formats to best suit their screen size, role, and preference. Suggested layout formats include:

• Vertical Layouts:

• 1x16 (current default)

• 2x8

• 4x4

• Horizontal Layouts:

• 16x1

• 8x2

• 4x4

• Scalable to 32-man groups:

• 2x16, 4x8, 8x4, or similar modular patterns

Options could be selected in the UI settings menu or via a right-click context menu on the group window itself. Additionally, allowing players to drag and reposition subgroups could further enhance flexibility.

Benefits

• Improved Accessibility: Prevents UI elements from being cut off or unreadable on lower-res screens.
• Enhanced Situational Awareness: Supports faster reaction times for healers and group leaders by presenting more visible data at once.
• Customization: Aligns with modern UI design expectations and supports player agency.
• Scalability: Future-proofs the interface for possible 32-player support or larger raid scenarios.

Implementation Suggestions

• Store layout preference client-side (per character or account).
• Use a grid-based rendering system to dynamically populate and space out group members.
• Ensure compatibility with existing UI mods and scaling settings.

Conclusion

Allowing customizable group window layouts will significantly improve gameplay for all roles, especially support and leadership positions. As SWG Evolve grows in complexity and group size, giving players control over how critical group data is displayed will enhance both performance and enjoyment.

I appreciate your consideration of this request and would be happy to provide feedback or test prototypes if needed.

Agree! Even if we could have 16x2 with the current format it would be dope. But I'm using 2k resolution so probably easier to handle compared to someone using 1080p.

Throw in adjustable width like several other UI elements have and I'd be thrilled.
